TPT Sale & Place Value Fun

Yesterday, TPT hit 100,000 followers on Facebook!  How exciting!  They have decided to celebrate with a site wide flash sale that will last until 10/14!!   Don't forget to enter the code FB100K to get your 10% savings.  I am joining the fun and my entire store is on sale too, so you will actually get 20% anything in my store!! Who doesn't love a sale??  What fun!!

Speaking of fun, in my class we are having so much fun with this new math manipulative and it's all thanks to TeacherTipster.com!

I just love all the fun things that Mr. Smith does over on his website at teachertipster.com! I saw this fun and easy to make math manipulative via his YouTube videos and went right out to the dollar store and made a set for my class!
I bought 3 green and 1 pink noodle from the Dollar Tree and cut them using a large bread knife.  I cut the green noodles into thirds which made 9 tens, and  then I cut pink noodles which made plenty of ones.

Of course I just had to make a fun center activity to go along with my new place value noodles!  Check out my Build Your Numbers center in my TPT store!  My kiddos have so much fun using the noodles to build the number shown on the cards and then they flip the card over to check their work!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and don't forget to head over to TPT to check out the super secret flash sale!!!

Time spent on pinterest SHOULD equal professional development hours

I found this great linky party that is all about some of our favorite pinterest finds!  I LOVE pinterest and just had to join in the fun!  I can really lose all sense of time when I am on pinterest, just ask my family!!

Here are a few of my favorite finds from this week:

1. This simple idea from What the Teacher Wants is super cool!  I tried it in my class this week and kids were really excited about writing on a plate.  The best part of this was how it helped them visualize both addens before they added them together!

2. Just today I found this cute idea of using plastic Easter eggs to teach compound words!  Right after spring break we are going to start compound words and you bet I will headed to Target after Easter to buy myself a discounted set of plastic eggs!!

3.  Finally, I thought I would share a cool classroom organization pin that I found last week!  I have all my bulletin board letters in big gallon zip lock bags by colors but everytime I want to use them I have to lay them all out on a table to find the right letters.  This clever teacher uses a binder with CD holders to organize the letters!  I'm totally doing this, maybe when I go to Target for the eggs I will get a few CD holder pages.  This is a perfect project for one of my awesome parent volunteers!

Here is the linky party with bunches of other blogs that will be highlighting some favorite pinterest finds!  Enjoy! :)

Feel free to come over and check out my pinterest to see the full extent of my pinterest adiction.  Thanks for stopping by!!

Easy to make Valentine's for students

Ok, I have to admit that I was so focused on the 100th day celebration that I almost forgot to make Valentine's for my cuties!  I just got finished making these cards and they were super easy to make, so I thought I would share.
To make them you need pencils, construction paper and a hole punch.  I printed the message on my colored printer and cut out hearts that were slightly bigger using different colored construction paper.

After I cut the hearts and message out, I hole punched them together in 2 places, and slid the pencils in to place.  The whole process took me less than an hour to make and my only cost was the pencils from Dollar Tree, but they would be just as cute with plain pencils!

We are having some snow here tonight, so we decorated our Valentine's bags in class today just in case we have a 2 hour delay tomorrow!  Check out how cute they turned out!  We have been having so much fun with our new Monster Place Value center that we decided to make monster themed bags!

How cute are these monsters?  I have to give a little shout out to the awesome graphics designer, Laura Strickland over at www.mycutegraphics.com, all of her graphics are super cute!!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
